How to enable/fix multitasking in 4.2.1

Since updating to 4.2.1 you may have found that enabling multitasking in redsn0w seems to work at first but has problems. Whenever you try to switch between apps using the multitasking bar springboard crashes. This is a problem on the iPhone 3g and the iPod Touch 2g (the only devices you would enable multitasking on).


A solution to this problem has now been found although it is not perfect:







Use WinSCP to SSH into your device and navigate to /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app


If you dont know how to do this then follow the tutorial here.


Find the file named N82ap.plist if you've got an iPhone 3g or N72ap.plist if you've got an iPod Touch 2g and open it in a text editor.


If youve enabled multitasking with redsn0w then you'll be able to find this. If its not there copy and paste it in.

Find this part (should be right underneath the multitasking entry): 

<key>opengles-1</key>
<true/>

Change the 1 to a 2. After this save the file and respring or reboot your device.


There are some problems with this fix. You will find that there are white lines through certain buttons such as the send button in the messages app but this is purely a graphical error and multitasking works perfectly. However, if you don't like seeing those lines multitasking can be disabled by replacing true with false and replacing the 2 with a 1.

    tried this but my iphone 3g became stuck at the apple logo.. I had to edit the N82AP.plist back to its original settings..

    THERE IS AN EASIER WAY JUST DOWNLOAD THE IFUNBOX, RUN IT, THEN ON THE SIDE BAR LOOK FOR THE DIR: /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app THERE LOOK FOR THE FILE N82AP.PLIST MAKE A COPY OF IT ON THE DESKTOP, THEN DELETE THE ORIGINAL, THEN OPEN THE FILE ON THE DESKTOP WITH RICK TEXT, MAKE THE CHANGES AS SAID: CHANGE THE "1" FOR A "2" DONE THAT COPY IT TO THE PHONE VIA COPY FROM PC (ON THE PROGRAM) RESPRING AND DONE :) (NO NEED OF WINSCP)
